MaineCare is one of several needs-based programs that provides individuals with financial assistance for long term care, either in a nursing home setting or at home.
Many of the rules associated with MaineCare eligibility are designed to prevent people from intentionally impoverishing themselves (for example by giving away property to children) in an effort to become eligible for benefits. These complex regulations are often in a state of flux and over the past several years, Maine has instituted strict eligibility rules.
We work with clients who wish to preplan in an effort to maximize their eligibility for MaineCare and other government benefit programs. We also work with clients facing more immediate needs and assist in the preparation and filing of MaineCare applications. We assist in gathering the necessary financial information and we advocate for our clients before the Department of Health and Human Services as the application makes its way through the system.
