Dick's practice focuses on estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax planning, business succession planning, and the administration of trusts and estates. He has served on the Probate Law Revision Commission, which promulgated the Maine Probate Code in 1980, and on the Supreme Judicial Court's Advisory Committee on Probate Rules. In 1989 he served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Maine School of Law teaching an advanced course on estate planning.

Listed annually since 1989 in "Best Lawyers in America," Dick is a 1968 graduate, summa cum laude, of the College of the Holy Cross, and a 1972 graduate, cum laude, of Harvard Law School. He has served as President of the Maine Estate Planning Council and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland, as Chairman of the Board of the United Way of Greater Portland, the Catholic Foundation of Maine, and the United Way Foundation, and as Maine State Chairman of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. Awarded the Community Service Award in 1989 by Catholic Charities of Maine, Dick has been involved with a number of other civic and charitable organizations, including the Cumberland County Affordable Housing Venture, Cheverus High School, the Portland Chamber of Commerce, and Maine Special Olympics. He is also a frequent speaker at local seminars and workshops on estate planning and related topics.
