Jay practices primarily in the areas of estate planning, business planning, trust and estate administration, Medicaid eligibility, and related elder law issues. He has practiced law in Portland since 1977. He served on the Probate Rules and Forms Committee which drafts rules for practice in the Probate Courts and develops forms for Probate practice. He has also served as Chairman of the Probate Section of the Maine State Bar Association. He has been listed in "Best Lawyers in America" since 1996.
Jay graduated from Cornell University in 1969, and from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1977. He was an Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. He is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and the Maine Estate Planning Council. He has served as a member and as Chairman of the School Board for the Town of Falmouth, Maine. Jay plays upright bass and has appeared on the Garrison Keillor radio show, at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Library of Congress, and at National Folk Festivals.
